Terms
The plain-language terms for a STACK membership: what you pay, how to cancel, and what you may do with the work.
These terms cover the paid membership at stack.metatronmind.com. They are written to be read, not to be impressive. Using the site means you accept them.
The service
STACK publishes essays about engineering work. Some are free; members’ pieces require an active membership. The operator is Clifton Morris, an individual trading as Metatron Mind, of PO Box 73, New Plymouth, Idaho 83655, United States. There is no separate registered entity. Contact: [email protected]. Payments are processed by Stripe; the seller of record for tax purposes is the operator.
Price and billing
- $8.00 USD per month, or $80.00 USD per year.
- Prices are in US dollars. Any tax that becomes applicable is added at checkout; at the time of writing no sales tax is collected.
- A membership renews automatically at the end of each period until cancelled.
- If a renewal fails, the payment provider retries. Access continues during a short grace period (up to seven days) while payment is retried; after that, access ends.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from Account → Manage billing, which opens the Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep access until then, and you are not charged again.
There is no self-serve pause and no pro-rata refund for the unused part of a voluntary cancellation. If you cancel by mistake, reply to a receipt and the operator will sort it out.
Refunds
If you were charged in error, charged twice, or the site did not deliver what you paid for, reply to any receipt from Stripe and a refund will be made. Refunds are handled manually, in Stripe, by the operator. They are issued to the original payment method.
Your account
One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; do not share your session or republish members’ content. The operator may close an account that is shared, resold, or used to redistribute the archive, and will not refund it in that case.
The work
The essays, receipts, numbers and design are the operator’s work. A membership grants you a personal, non-exclusive licence to read them. It does not grant the right to republish, mirror, sell, or feed them to a product that resells access, in whole or in part. Quoting a short passage with attribution and a link is fine.
Availability, and what is not promised
The site is operated by one person and may be unavailable at times — for maintenance, an incident, or a move. The archive is written in advance but not guaranteed to any schedule. Nothing here is professional, legal, financial, or safety advice.
Liability
The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top is the version. Material changes will be announced in a post or by email to the address on the membership before they take effect. Continuing to use the site after a change accepts the new version.
Contact
Reply to any receipt you have from Stripe; that reaches the operator directly. For anything else about the membership, use the support address shown on the receipt.
